Day 1 – Arrival Day at Strathcarron
On arrival you will be greeted by your Chapeau crew and registered onto the event. You will have plenty of opportunity to chat to your fellow cyclists as the excitement builds for your adventure start the next morning…be sure to get a good nights rest!
Day 2 – Strathcarron to Talladale (73 Miles) Elevation: 6234ft/1900m
After a good breakfast we begin this magnificent cycling experience taking in the sublime views that Scotland has to offer. We will warm up our legs as we pedal through the beautiful lanes before we take on the UK’s greatest ascent, Bealach na Ba! This famous route rises from sea level to 626m and then descends to Applecross and follows a challenging route round the coastline to Shieldaig and then on to Talladale. This area of Scotland is simply stunning and awe inspiring… perfect for cycling enthusiasts.
Day 3 – Talladale to Ullapool (66 Miles) Elevation: 4863ft/1482m.
After a good night’s rest, we head north from our hotel and cycle past the impressive mountains around Beinn Eighe Kinlochewe.
Riding by the banks of Loch Maree we pass Loch Gairloch and Loch Ewe before continuing our journey along the Isle of Ewe and Gruinard Island before passing the Falls of Measach and then onto the picturesque fishing village of Ullapool, where we will stop for the night.
Day 4 – Ullapool to Durness (70 Miles) Elevation: 5260ft/1603m.
As we head further north from Ullapool hugging the coastline as we go, we ascend just past Ardvreck Castle and then eventually start one of the best descents of the ride down to Kylesku Bridge. Be sure to keep your eyes on the road as they will be dragged off in every direction in this cycling heaven!
Eventually we meet the southern tip of the Kyle of Durness just before we roll in through stunning scenery, to our finishing point for the day and our hotel for the night at the Crofters Village of Durness.
Day 5 – Durness to Tain (88 Miles) Elevation: 3195ft/974m.
Leaving the west coast behind we start off on a fairly easy first half of the day, passing beautiful white sandy beaches, that could easily be mistaken from a tropical island paradise! You run out of superlatives quickly to describe this special part of the UK, it’s an experience not to be missed! The second half of the day involves more climbing, as we head towards Altnahara. We continue on past the Crask (obligatory whiskey for those so inclined), then cycle southbound all the way to Tain and our ride finish.
Day 6 – Departure Day
After re-living the memories of the ride with your cycling friends and Crew over a hearty Scottish breakfast, it’s unfortunately time to pack your bags and leave for home. Your bikes will be safely transported back to Manchester/Cheshire area by the Chapeau Events crew, if required.
Chapeau Events reserves the right to change the route or itinerary for safety reasons should local conditions dictate.

What can I expect from your accommodation?
Accommodation is bed and breakfast in 3-4* hotels, picked for their proximity to our route and provided by our partner Travel Counsellors. All the hotels are chosen with en-suite facilities, offering exceptional value for money; standards however may vary between the hotels. The accommodation price as listed above is based on two people sharing a room. If you are travelling on your own don’t worry, Travel Councellors will pair you up with somebody in a similar position. You can also opt for a single room, but this will incur a supplementary charge (£300 for 5 nights).
What food is included and does it cater for all diets?
Lunch, and evening meal is not provided, however recommended suitable dining choices will be issued and are payable locally. There will be two designated water stops available on each ride day too, which will give you the opportunity to refill your water bottles and get access to snacks. In addition, you are welcome to bring your own individual snacks, which the Crew will hold on to and make available at each stop on your behalf.

Our events are tailored to you…our team have physically driven and assessed every mile of the route to ensure the safest and best possible route for your challenge, so rest assured you are in the safest hands. All our routes are specifically tailored with you in mind.
How fit do I need to be?
Chapeau events attract people of all levels of experience and fitness, all ages and backgrounds. We expect all participants to train hard in advance to achieve this challenge, but we respect everyone’s limits. You will be in the saddle for upward of 60 miles a day for 4 consecutive days, so you should ensure, as a minimum that you are comfortable riding a 60-70 mile day and have achieved this regularly before you leave for the trip. The profile is very hilly, so please include some hills in your training. This event has a difficulty rating of 6 out of 8, which Chapeau rate as challenging. You will need confidence in your fitness and technical ability is crucial for this event. We design our challenges so that everyone can go at their own pace; this is not a race. Who will be there to support me during the event?
Your trip will be led by experienced Chapeau Events crew. Our crew are selected for their experience in cycling events around the world, their friendliness and approach-ability, sense of humour and ability to safely and effectively deal with any situation that arises. Our crew leaders are also trained in outdoor first-aid. You are in very safe hands with the Chapeau Events crew.
The number of crew and support vehicles looking after you will depend on the final size of your group, but the team will be looking after every aspect of your trip whether that’s transporting your luggage, sorting out any mechanical problems or giving you a lift in our back vehicle – our “Love bus”. At Chapeau Events we pride ourselves on our high crew: cyclist ratio and believe it leads to greater trip enjoyment as well as excellent trip safety.
Will I be safe?
Your safety, and that of the rest of the group, is our highest priority. Our trips are designed and planned with safety in mind. Your crew will be equipped with emergency mobile phones, first-aid kits and other safety apparatus where necessary. They always have access to our 24-hour emergency back-up in the UK. Our leaders are responsible for safety on the trip, and will make any changes to the itinerary they deem necessary should local conditions dictate.
What happens to my luggage each day?
Our support vehicles are with the group all of the time. All luggage and spares will be carried in them as we travel to each destination. On reaching our hotels, at the end of each day, you will hand over your bike for safe overnight keeping and collect your luggage. Each morning, you will hand over your luggage and collect your bike. Obviously space is limited and hard-sided luggage is not suitable, so it is essential that your kit is packed in a soft sailing bag, rucksack or expedition kit-bag.
What insurance will I require?
Insurance on this UK based trip is optional.
Is travel, to start of route in Strathcarron and from end of route Tain, included?
No…you are responsible for your own travel arrangements to the start of the event in Strathcarron and from the end of the event in Tain. Inverness is the main town for airport or train station travel arrangements. If travelling by car, you will be able to leave your vehicle at the end hotel in Tain and and we will transport you to Strathcarron for the evening, all ready for the event start the following day.
