22 – 27 June – Venice to Milan in aid of Amy & Friends

Cycle approximately 250 miles through the exquisite country of Italy from the beautiful canals of Venice, built on more than 100 small islands in a marshy lagoon in the Adriatic sea; to the busy suburbs of Milan and the famous gothic cathedral, the Duomo di Milano. Experience the breathtaking views as our exciting event takes us west on flat roads as we leave the canals, crossing farmland, wetlands and waterways, to the rolling hills near San Bonifacio, and onwards to, arguably, the most beautiful lakes in Italy before finishing in the stunning city of Milan. All promises to provide some of the most tranquil and beautiful settings in this “not to be missed” event.

Day 1 – Venice to San Bonifacio
Approximate cycling distance 109km (68 miles)

Your event begins after breakfast, as we head west along this flat tranquil terrain and leave the beautiful canals behind, continuing towards the arcaded streets and stylish cafes of Padua, passing the Basillica di Sant Antonio Padova. Heading west, we cycle towards San Bonifacio our home for the night, famous for the Abbey of St Peter founded in the 7th century.

Day 2 – San Bonifacio to Polpenazze Del Garda
Approximate cycling distance 92km (57 miles)

After a hearty breakfast we set off for day 2 which promises a beautiful undulating terrain through the quirky and beautiful quaint towns Italy has to offer. Our mission is Lake Garda, the largest lake in Italy where Glaciers formed this alpine region at the end of the last ice age. Taking in this tranquil place, we continue as we cycle along the lakes edge, crossing small bridges and riding down quirky cobbled streets; before cycling to our final town on the Western side of the lake, Popenaazze Del Gardia and our stop for the evening.

Day 3 – Polpenazze Del Garda to Sulzano
Approximate cycling distance 92km (57 miles)

After a good night’s sleep we begin our cycling through yet more undulating beautiful scenery heading towards the stunning Lake d’Iseo. We will take in the eastern side of the lake following the magnificent views all the way before resting in Sulzano, a picturesque and medieval village situated on the eastern shore of arguably one of the most beautiful lakes Italy has to offer.

Day 4 – Sulzano to Milan
Approximate cycling distance 99km (62 miles)

After a good night’s sleep we begin our final days cycling heading southwest as we continue our journey through beautiful Italian towns of Far Gera d’Adda and Gorgonzola, famous for its cheese. Passing some interesting key places linked to Leonardo Da Vinci, we cycle onto our final goal. With plenty of time to take it all in, we make our way to the busy suburbs of Milan and our finish at the famous Duomo di Milano, the gothic catholic cathedral, which took nearly 6 centuries to complete! Marking a stunning end to a sublime cycle, our hotel awaits as we head out to celebrate our achievement…Chapeau!

How fit do I need to be?
Chapeau events attract people of all levels of experience and fitness, all ages and backgrounds. We expect all participants to train hard in advance to achieve this challenge, but we respect everyone’s limits. You will be in the saddle for upward of 55 miles a day for 4 consecutive days, so you should ensure, as a minimum that you are comfortable riding a 45 mile day and have achieved this regularly before you leave for the trip. Whilst the profile for this event is mainly flat there will be undulating terrain on occasions, so you should include some easy hilly rides in your training. Chapeau has rated this event 2/8 difficulty – Relatively easy – slightly longer descents/ascents with occasional steeper spurts. We design our challenges so that everyone can go at their own pace; this is not a race.
